We recognize that back-to-back courses can be challenging, so we’ve intentionally built most of our MBA coursework to last just 7 weeks, giving you a one-week break between most courses.

Calvin’s MBA offers a general track tailored to fit your needs with several elective courses of your choosing or you can select from one of these areas of focus: nonprofit management, marketing, finance, business analytics, and applied communication.

Master of Business Administration (MBA): Business Analytics

The MBA Area of Focus in – Business Analytics will prepare you for success in competitive marketplaces with knowledge of data wrangling, predictive analysis, and data visualizations tools.

Some prior experience with programming, statistics, and linear algebra is required.

The MBA Area of Focus in Nonprofit Management explores the essentials of leadership and how utilizing such skills in the nonprofit sector can benefit communities across the world.

Faculty Spotlight

Leonard Van Drunen

leonard van drunen – professor

Professor Van Drunen holds a PhD in finance from Purdue University and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science along with a bachelor’s degree in business from Dordt College.

He teaches corporate finance, financial analysis and valuation and financial planning. He served as chair of the Calvin business program from 2010 to 2019. Other teaching experience includes University of Utah and University of Cambridge, England, and two universities in China.

Prior to joining Calvin University, Professor Van Drunen worked in investment banking as a managing director with J.P. Morgan in New York, Tokyo, and London, and with Merrill Lynch in New York. He is published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business and The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, among others.

Professor Van Drunen is an active real estate developer and an avid cyclist.

Jill Risner

jill risner – professor

Professor Risner earned her Doctor of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from the Falls School of Business at Anderson University, a master’s degree from Ashland University, and a bachelor’s degree from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.

She teaches digital marketing and marketing management.

Professor Risner’s research not only reflects her academic expertise but also her commitment to understanding the complex moral landscape of the digital age. Her research has been published in the Christian Business Academy Review, Christian Business Review, and the Journal of Markets & Morality.

She currently manages marketing and administration for Rabbit Hill Studio, an art studio she co-owns with her husband, Joshua.

In her free time, Jill enjoys reading, mountain biking, rollerblading, and spending time with her family.

You can start the online MBA program at six different start dates throughout the year, flexible to meet your needs.

You can select a general MBA that consists of 12 required courses and 3 additional master’s courses of your choice (in consultation with your advisor) to complete the program. The five available areas of focus – Applied Communication, Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, and Nonprofit Management – are optional ways to complete the full 30-36 hours for your MBA.
